HEATH SLOCUM: Fifth in FedExCup points (1,600 after reset)
The win at The Barclays was the third of Slocum's career. Slocum, who made a 20-footer for par at the 72nd hole at Liberty National, finished at 9 under, one stroke ahead of Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker, Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington. Stricker, in the same pairing with Slocum and tied for the lead, missed a 10-foot par putt on No. 18 that would have forced extra holes. Woods, playing in the group ahead, missed a 7-foot birdie try on the final green. Slocum enters THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola in the final spot of the coveted top five. Any player finishing in the top five can win the FedExCup with a victory at East Lake. It would be especially sweet for Slocum, who calls the Atlanta area home. This will be Slocums second time playing in THE TOUR Championship. He finished T17 in 2007.
Quick analysis
This Cinderfella was battling to keep his TOUR card for 2010 when he came to Liberty National ranked 124th in the FedExCup. Slocum closed with a 67 to win The Barclays and played his way all the way to third. He's got a two-year exemption now and nothing to lose. Slocum can go for broke -- and the $10 million -- at East Lake. -- Helen Ross
