MARC LEISHMAN: 16th in FedExCup points (380 after reset)
Leishman saved his best performance of his rookie season for the right time, posting a tie for second at the BMW Championship to play his way into THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. Leishman was 78th entering the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup but fell to 93rd after missing the cut at The Barclays. He needed a strong performance at the Deutsche Bank Championship to move on, which he accomplished with a tie for 15th to go from 93rd to 67th. The runner-up at the BMW Championship marked the third top-10 finish of his PGA TOUR career and first since May 24 and earned him more than enough points to become the only rookie to make it to THE TOUR Championship. Leishman's two other top-10 finishes this season came at the Valero Texas Open and the HP Byron Nelson Championship, where he tied for fifth and eighth, respectively.
Quick analysis
Leishman is the poster boy for the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. He started the Playoffs ranked 78th but fell to 93rd when he missed the cut at The Barclays. He then needed an eagle at the 72nd hole at TPC Boston to sneak into the field for the BMW Championship with three spots to spare. A tie for second at Cog Hill landed him well into the top 30, so he's making his TOUR Championship debut. A year ago Leishman was playing the Nationwide Tour, and now he's staking his claim for PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year. -- Helen Ross
