TIGER WOODS: First in FedExCup points (2,500 after reset)
After missing more than eight months of competition on the PGA TOUR following knee surgery after winning the 2008 U.S. Open, Tiger Woods returned to action at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship. Woods went on to record five victories during the PGA TOUR's regular season to enter the Playoffs No. 1 in the FedExCup standings. With a runner-up at The Barclays and a victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship, Steve Stricker jumped Woods for the top spot after two evens. Woods moved back into the No. 1 spot with a convincing eight-stroke victory at the third playoff event, the BMW Championship. Woods, the 2007 FedExCup Champion, has 13 top-10 finishes in 15 stroke-play events in 2009 and has six top-10 finishes at THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola in 11 starts. The last three times that Woods has teed it up at East Lake, he has finished second, second and first, respectively.
Quick analysis
He says this is one of his best seasons and who are we to argue? He didn't win a major for just the third time in his career, but Sunday's dominating win at the BMW Championship was his sixth of the season. He has made 16 starts and finished 11th or better in all 15 of the stroke-play events. He's first in the FedExCup, and also first on the money list with just under $10 million -- which he could double if he wins the FedExCup at East Lake. Need we say more? -- Helen Ross
