JIM FURYK: Third in FedExCup points (2,000 after reset) Without a victory in the 2009 season, Furyk has shown the importance of consistency when it comes to the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. With three finishes in the top 15 in the Playoffs, including a tie for second at the BMW Championship, Furyk moved from No. 16 at the start of the Playoffs to No. 3. Furyk is the highest-ranked player without a victory in 2009 thanks to nine top-10 finishes. In 21 events, Furyk has missed only two cuts this season. Furyks rise in the Playoffs could have been even better if not for a four-stroke penalty at The Barclays after beginning the third round with too many clubs in his bag. Furyk finished tied for 15th at 3 under. Without those penalty strokes, he would have finished tied for sixth. This will be Furyks 12th time playing in THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. He has two runner-up finishes (1996, 2006). |

| Quick analysis |
| He hasn't won in a little over two years, so a player of Furyk's caliber is definitely overdue. He made a huge push on Sunday at Cog Hill to get into the top five in the FedExCup standings, moving up 18 spots as he tied for second in the BMW Championship. A win at East Lake, where Furyk was second to Adam Scott in 2006, would turn a good season into a stellar one. -- Helen Ross |
