MORE INTERVIEWS: Viking Classic transcript archive

Q. (Inaudible)?

BILL LUNDE: We started a half hour later and then two hours. Another hour and then done. For us that were teeing off, I was the first group, and we've been here since 6 o'clock. So it's just the waiting part that's kind of tough. It's either let's play or let's not.

I know that the officials can't do anything else. But we just keep trying to see if the course will be playable or not judging the weather and all of that. It's just the waiting. It's more annoying than impacting play. I think if we were to wait until 2 o'clock and then go play, definitely getting up so early I would not be as mentally into it. You know what I mean. It makes a difference I think in your play. But it's more of sitting around. It wears you down.

Q. Were you at Turning Stone?

BILL LUNDE: I was.

Q. What was that like playing in those kind of conditions?

BILL LUNDE: It was cold, windy, wet, raining a little bit.

Q. It's not that cold here?

BILL LUNDE: No, it's definitely a lot warmer here. Pretty similar. I think they hadn't had as much rain leading up to it that you guys had here which caused so many problems. At least there we had the rain a few days before we got there so the course was still playable. We were playing lift clean and place everywhere. But it was manageable. I think here right now, I think I heard 20 inches of rain in the last five weeks, something like that. That is pretty incredible.

Q. Have you been out on the course?

BILL LUNDE: Yes, it's my first year out here. I played on Tuesday. It was tough walking, let alone play. I kind of figured we would play lift, clean and place all week. It's amazing how good the greens are. The greens are perfect. The ground is so saturated and the fairways. The bunkers and all of that. I got to get up. I will be back here at 6 o'clock in the morning, and I know the weather forecast isn't the greatest for tomorrow. Kind of go through the same routine tomorrow.

Q. You will have to play four rounds in three days, I guess if they try to do that.

BILL LUNDE: Yes, I think if we get all 72 holes in it's going to be a 36 hole day somewhere. Or at least I'm going to guess at least 27. It will be a long day. Especially because it's so wet and muddy. It's not like walking on a cart path. It kind of gets old. It's something that none of us haven't done before. It's a long patient waiting game at this point.

Q. Is it strange coming from the desert to here?

BILL LUNDE: Well, yes. Why did we ever leave Arizona, or Las Vegas for that matter. It's just part of the traveling. It's the kind of stuff you do. I was talking Alex Cejka, and he says, I don't know why we are waiting, I played eight years on the European Tour with weather like this every week. It's nothing that players haven't done before. It's unfortunate because all of the effort that goes into these events and not being able to play on the first day, and the forecast isn't good. It will be kind of interesting to see how the week turns out.
