Of Justin Leonard's 12 PGA TOUR wins, three have come at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio -- 2000 (by five shots), 2001 (by two shots) and 2007 (in a playoff against Jesper Parnevik).
Why has the native Texan been so successful at LaCantera? We looked at some statistics from his three wins, and a few things caught our attention:
Driving accuracy: Leonard found the fairway 75 percent of the time (or better) in each of his wins, and ranked T8 or better in that category against the rest of the field
Putting average: Always a great putter, Leonard ranked first in putting average in 2000, and second in 2001
Scrambling: The field average in his three wins was less than 60 percent, but Leonard ranked 75 percent or higher each time, and never ranked lower than fifth in the field (he was T1 in 2007).
Par 4 scoring average: Leonard averaged under par on the par 4s at the 6,881-yard layout, while the field average was slightly above par each time.
