Justin had a splendid finish to his first round on Thursday, chipping in for birdie on the final hole to join Paul Goydos at the top of the leaderboard at 7 under.

It was hardly Leonard's lowest round at LaCantera, but he played well enough to be in good position to pursue another title here heading into the weekend.

Leonard stayed in the hunt with his 3-under 67 in the third round, which ended on Sunday morning, and will start the final round trailing leader Paul Goydos by three shots.

Leonard hit the most greens in regulation he had all week with 14, but was never able to get his putter going, taking the most putts he had all week with 31.

Five things you should know about Justin Leonard
Once ran a marathon in under four hours.
While at the University of Texas, became the only player in Southwest Conference history to win four consecutive championships.
Won the U.S. Amateur in 1992 at the age of 20 at Muirfield Village, beating future PGA TOUR regular Tom Scherrer in the finals.
Won THE PLAYERS Championship in 1998, but hasn't finished better than a tie for 21st in any other year.
His roommate at the University of Texas was future PGA TOUR regular Harrison Frazar.
