I never knew Lucas Glover was a surfer. Riding the victory wave after his U.S. Open win, Glover carded a 5-under 65 in round one. It truly has been an exciting week for Glover. He's been on the Late Show with David Letterman, Regis and Kelly and got a shaving cream pie thrown in his face courtesy of Johnson Wagner. Glover said it hurt a bit, but he went on to hit his tee shot on the first hole of the pro-am anyway. I am making a prediction that, after Glover plays his second round, his cell phone will be off and he will get some much-needed rest on Friday afternoon.
There is no question that TPC River Highlands was at the mercy of the PGA TOUR professionals on Thursday. There are well over 100 players under par heading into the second round. With rain predicted for the afternoon, look for the low scoring to continue. I predict we will have one of the lowest cuts on the PGA TOUR this year.
Like Lucas Glover, Ricky Barnes also fed off his performance last week. Barnes shot 65 as well in the first round. The second round could be a big one for Barnes. With another strong finish, he would move closer to securing his PGA TOUR card for 2010. After an up-and-down career, it is nice to see him playing well.
Look for Vijay Singh to have a good round on Friday. A disappointing bogey on his final hole (No. 18) in round one certainly had to make him a little hot under the collar. He will come out on fire in the second round.
