SILVIS, Ill. -- Due to a threatening weather situation, the onset of the second round was postponed until 7:00 a.m. CT Saturday morning. A total of 1.8 inches of rain fell. Players will keep the same tee time Saturday as scheduled for Friday.
There will be a 36-hole cut to the number nearest 60, not 70 after 36 holes. The final 36 holes will be played Sunday in threesomes off tees No. 1 and 10. There will be no re-pairing between the third and final round.
The 2009 John Deere Classic is the 10th PGA TOUR event to experience at least one weather delay this season. The most recent rain delay came two weeks ago at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn., where Kenny Perry ultimately emerged victorious.
In the unlikely event that the 2009 John Deere Classic is shortened to 54 holes, it would mark just the second time in the event's history. At the 1995 John Deere Classic, TPC Deere Run course designer D.A. Weibring bested Jonathan Kaye by a stroke after rain and freezing temperatures forced the suspension of play Thursday.
If the tournament extends into Monday, it would be the third time in the event's history. In 2000, Michael Clark II defeated Kirk Triplett in sudden death after a suspension due to inclement weather. In 2003, weather once again forced a Monday finish. That year, Vijay Singh claimed a four-stroke win over J.L. Lewis, Chris Riley and Jonathan Byrd.
The only other official 54-hole event of the 2009 season was the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. The fourth round was suspended before the start of the round on Sunday and cancelled Monday morning.
The last time a round was suspended without any play was the 2008 BWM Championship (Round 1).
