The John Deere Classic will take place at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., this week. Here's how the PGATOUR.COM experts sized up the top contenders:

KENNY PERRY. Picking the defending champion has gone two ways for me this year -- very well (Zach Johnson) and very poorly (Justin Leonard). Hopefully KP will turn out to be the former. If not, I shall be mad for not taking Lucas Glover.

Ryan
Smithson
DAVID TOMS. Toms has two second-place finishes in his last three events. TPC Deere Run demands a low 72-hole score to win, and Toms does that better than anyone.
If Smithson had the top pick ... Perry
T.J.
Auclair
LUCAS GLOVER. Might not be the wisest choice as he hasn't had a break since the U.S. Open whirlwind. But, Glover has honored his commitments and has played every event since winning at Bethpage Black and you have to respect that. He's still riding the high.
If Auclair had the top pick ...Perry
Win
McMurry
STEVE STRICKER. He hasn't gone more than two starts in a row without a top-10 all year and he's due for another. Stricker has already tasted victory this season at Colonial, and he has a decent record in the Quad Cities, tying for fourth at the '04 John Deere Classic.
If McMurry had the top pick ... Perry
Lauren
Deason
ZACH JOHNSON. He's already won twice on TOUR this year, plus he's notched top-25s in seven other starts. He would certainly be a popular champion in the Quad Cities as Johnson, who hails from nearby Iowa, is one of the Midwest's favorite golfing sons.
If Deason had the top pick ... Perry
John
Swantek
CHARLEY HOFFMAN. Only three courses on TOUR have surrendered more birdies than TPC Deere Run over the last five years. Only two players on TOUR have bagged more birdies than Hoffman this year. That's math I can understand.
If Swantek had the top pick ... Toms
Brian
Wacker
RYAN MOORE. He's finished in the top 11 three straight weeks and, while Moore looked like he might flame out after a tough third round in Hartford, he bounced back nicely with a good final round there and a T11 last week in D.C. Purely a momentum pick.
If Wacker had the top pick ... Stricker
Mark
Spoor
DAVIS LOVE III. When in doubt, all you need is Love. He tied for fifth at the Memorial last month and snagged a top-20 last week at the AT&T National. It may be time for another strong showing here. Let's hope so.
If Spoor had the top pick ... Perry
Mike
McAllister
JERRY KELLY. While Jerry Kelly's recent play hasn't been exciting, he seems to be over the missed cuts, and this Midwesterner has an excellent track record here. He's also not playing the British Open next week, so the pressure's off.
If McAllister had the top pick ... Perry
Helen
Ross
BRYCE MOLDER. I know he qualifies as a sleeper, but I like the way he's playing right now. He tied for second at Memphis four weeks ago and finished solo fourth on a tough Congressional track. Here's hoping he heads to Turnberry with even more momentum.
If Ross had the top pick ... Perry
