JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- With the Statue of Liberty serving as the backdrop, active duty, reserve and retired military personnel, along with their dependents, will be admitted free of charge to The Barclays at Liberty National, tournament officials announced on Tuesday.

The first event in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, The Barclays will be played August 24-30 and will feature the top 125 players on the FedExCup points list from the PGA TOUR Regular Season.

Active duty/retired members of all five branches of the military and the National Guard are invited to attend The Barclays free of charge and will be admitted by showing a military I.D. at the gate. In addition, tournament officials also announced that on Wednesday, August 26, The Barclays will host Military Appreciation Day.

Members of the military will have the opportunity to caddy for a player on selected holes during the Pro-Am. On Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30, uniformed military personnel will make player announcements on the first tee. Prior to the first tee time on Sunday, a military honor guard will present the colors.

"We are thrilled to offer members of our nation's military branches the opportunity to enjoy world-class golf and experience The Barclays free of charge," said The Barclays Executive Director Peter Mele. "We thank the members of our military for the sacrifices they make on our behalf and hope to show our respect, admiration and support through these initiatives during tournament week."

While onsite during the week, active duty and retired military personnel, along with their dependents, are invited to visit The Patriots' Outpost presented by Lockheed Martin, an expansive military hospitality chalet located near the main entrance offering panoramic views of the 4th green. The Patriots' Outpost will provide military guests and their dependents with complimentary food and beverage, television coverage of competition each day, a special kids' area and a gaming area featuring Wii games such as Tiger Woods '09.

PGA TOUR players competing in the tournament will also have the opportunity to participate in Pro vs. GI Joe (www.provsgijoe.com) -- a unique morale-boosting concept that allows gamers in the United States to compete in real-time video games against soldiers stationed abroad. Volunteers from the American Red Cross will staff The Patriots' Outpost throughout tournament week. ญญ

The Patriots' Outpost is part of the PGA TOUR's national Birdies for the Brave military outreach program. In addition to raising funds for military men and women and their dependents through charity golf events hosted throughout the year, Birdies for the Brave includes military appreciation celebrations held during PGA TOUR tournaments; postcard and letter-writing campaigns for the troops; donation drives for military families; and the Adopt-A-Wounded Warrior Program.
