Transcript archive: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial

Q. I hope it picks up there at the 9th, and I hope it doesn't ruin your lunch, but you struck the ball beautifully.

VIJAY SINGH: I didn't drive it as good as I wanted to but a lot of good irons shots, I missed 2 greens. I'm happy I got off to a good start. Each week I've been struggling to get off to a good start.

Q. It's been so rainy back in Florida, has it hurt your practice, because obviously it doesn't look like it did?

VIJAY SINGH: I'm glad.

Q. Talk about this golf course, does it fit your eye? You like to shape the ball, that's required out here?

VIJAY SINGH: I like to drive the ball and, you know, from tee to green it's pretty demanding. If you get the ball on the fairway, there is a lot of birdie opportunities out there. If you use a driver, you are going to have short iron shots.

Q. I thought your stroke looked beautiful.

VIJAY SINGH: Going in. Now I got to practice. I got to change a little grip on my right hand. It's starting to roll.

Q. Weaken it or strengthen it?

VIJAY SINGH: Weaken it.

Q. Can you tell us about your round?

VIJAY SINGH: I'm pretty pleased with what I did. Each week I've been starting off over par. This is the first time where I got it under par, got it a lot under par. It's a good way to start a golf tournament.

Q. Tell us about the familiarity of it out there, your comfort level.

VIJAY SINGH: I knew the golf course, and Kenny was making a lot of shots as well and we played off each other. I like the golf course. I think the redo. It's really good. The greens are a little slow. If you get it on line, you can make a lot of putts.

Q. (Inaudible)?

VIJAY SINGH: I don't know, probably my iron play. I'm working really hard with my driver. It clicked on the driving range, it hasn't clicked on the golf course. I wasn't very pleased the way I drove the ball. Now I have three days to get going.

Q. (Inaudible)?

VIJAY SINGH: It's going to be slow. Maybe tomorrow the greens will toughen up.

Q. You played a million golf courses, can you rate this course?

VIJAY SINGH: It's tough, one of the best layouts, I think. Probably higher up.

Q. Vijay, do you feel you have a lot of support from the gallery?

VIJAY SINGH: More than I had last week. I haven't been playing well, so it's very quiet. Maybe it will get noisier.

Q. With the wind coming up the next couple of days, will it make it harder?

VIJAY SINGH: I think it needs wind. Somebody is going to go really really low here.

Q. So you want it a little tougher, obviously?

VIJAY SINGH: Well, you know, I'm playing well, I want it tougher, obviously we all want.

Q. (Inaudible)?

VIJAY SINGH: I played well. I'm happy not just playing here, and playing well, it's the first day.

Q. Feeling injury-free, you've battled some of that, how optimistic does that make you feel?

VIJAY SINGH: I'm not hurting at all. I feel good. I'm strong. My game needs to come around as well in a nice way. I'm feeling good, each week I go out there. I would like to win this tournament. That would be great.
