Course origins
Four Seasons Resort and Club offers two 18-hole golf courses. The TPC Four Seasons was originially designed by Jay Morrish in 1983. It underwent a major renovation and redesign in 2007-2008 by D.A. Weibring and Steve Wolford. The new layout has large, undulating greens, and the fairways are tree-lined, and creeks and ponds come into play several times on this course.
One of the toughest holes is No. 3, a 528-yard par 4, which has water nearly the entire length on the right and bunkers on the left of the fairway. Strong Texas winds prevail most of the year from the north in the cool months and from the south in the warm months. The redesign was dramatic and included extensive tree landscaping, rebuilding of all greens, bunkers and tee boxes and included the addition of a four-pond water cascade feature on No. 18.
The second course is a private member course designed by Jay Morrish with the No. 1 green in the shape of the state of Texas, a bunker in the shape of the state of Oklahoma and a small lake representing the Gulf of Mexico. Prior to 2008, the PGA TOUR utilized both courses for HP Byron Nelson Championship play. Beginning last year, in conjunction with the new design, the tournament moved exclusivley to the TPC Four Seasons layout. Between 2008 and 2009, the TPC Four Seasons was converted to Bermudagrass fairways from a traditional winter Ryegrass program. The renovation, and new late May tournament date, permitted this important modification to year-round agronomic practices and playing conditions. --Source: Golf Course Superintendents Assocation of America
