FINAL-ROUND UPDATE (10:35 a.m. ET): The third round was completed without a hitch Sunday morning, and the final round will begin at 11:14 a.m. ET. Players will be in threesomes off of split tees, and they will play the ball as it lies. In Round 3, players were able to play under lift, clean and place rules due to the course conditions. There are no storms expected Sunday in the Greensboro area. If all goes well, the final group will tee off at 1:15 p.m. ET on the first hole.

EXPERT PREVIEW: PGA TOUR on-site correspondent Brett Wright previews Sunday's round:

Rainy days seem to be the theme of much of this year's PGA TOUR season. I am hoping nobody notices that I have been working as a broadcaster during seven of the rain-delayed events this year on TOUR. Our newest addition to the broadcast team, Bill Rezinski, is working his third event for the PGA TOUR Network this week, and the guys are calling him "Rain-delay Rezinski" because he has been in a rain delay each event. I can't imagine what they might start calling me if they notice -- "Hurricane Brett," "Wrong Rain Wright," "Wet Brett," etc...

Not everyone was able to take advantage of the good early scoring conditions in the third round of the Wyndham Championship. Chez Reavie got off to a rough start with bogeys at Nos. 1 and 2. Aussie John Senden made a bogey at the par-3 seventh after missing a short 2-foot putt to drop a shot and remain the second player in contention who is not even par or better in Round 3.

Conditions deteriorated so quickly in the third round that it shocked the players and the gallery. As usual, the horn sounded before the dangerous conditions got close to the course. Fred Couples was walking into a par putt at the par-3 seventh and literally jumped when the horn sounded under sunny skies. Couples had a solid round going with three birdies in his first six holes. The giant galleries were constantly chanting "go Boom Boom" as Couples was constantly stretching out his back between shots. These changes in temperature cannot be beneficial to Couples' dexterity.

The players who most quickly adapt to the moisture will gain ground on the field at the end of the third round and throughout the final round on Sunday. They will have to adjust to carrying the ball 10-15 yards longer than required to many hole locations because the ball will not release at all, not even downhill. Players who can throw caution to the wind and pick the right number to throw darts to the hole will benefit the most. The Wyndham Championship will be won by extremely aggressive play on Sunday.

Stat of the day

Chris Riley co-leads with Sergio Garcia through 10 holes. If Riley maintains at least a share of the lead through Round 3, it will be third time he has held a 54-hole lead. He was T1 after 54 holes at the 2002 Reno-Tahoe Open, which he won, and he shared the 54-hole lead at the '03 John Deere Classic, where he tied for second.
