LATEST FROM ROUND 3 (12 p.m. ET): Due to the course conditions, the third round will be contested under lift, clean and place rules. -- Helen Ross

WEATHER UPDATE (11:50 a.m. ET): The range at Sedgefield Country Club opened shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Saturday after a delay of about 2 hours. The first tee times are scheduled for 12:09 p.m. ET off Nos. 1 and 10.

The skies should remain clear for several more hours, although showers are re-developing to the west. There is a 50 percent chance of rain Saturday afternoon, but the cold front that is slowly moving through the Piedmont area of North Carolina should reach the coast by tonight.

Drier, less humid weather is expected for Sunday but there is enough upper level energy to produce showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs both days are in the mid-80s. -- Helen Ross

ROUND 3 UPDATE (11 a.m. ET): The third round was delayed from its originally scheduled start time of 9:39 a.m. until approximately 11:09 a.m. when dangerous weather moved into Greensboro shortly after the completion of the second round. Round 3 has been delayed for another hour, and play should begin at 12:09 p.m. once the storms have cleared the area. Stay tuned for further updates.

EXPERT PREVIEW: PGA TOUR on-site correspondent Bob Stevens previews Saturday's round:

Sergio Garcia came into the Wyndham Championship actually thinking he might not even make it to the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup because he was ranked 115th in the standings.

He wasn't in the best of moods when he got to Greensboro, but after finishing a 67 Friday morning, he went out and shot an afternoon 64 with eagles on both par 5s. He told me afterward his putter has actually been his best weapon so far, and he hit 16 of 18 greens. If that continues, Garcia might do a whole lot more than just make it to the The Barclays next week.

Saturday's forecast

Scattered T-Storms
Temp: 84 high/66 low
Thunderstorms in the afternoon. The field will use split tees on Saturday in an attempt to stay ahead of the weather.

Nobody knows for sure how the weekend will play out, but John Senden thinks he has an idea. Senden finished sixth here a year ago and is right in the hunt again after shooting a 6-under 64 in his second round, so he ought to know.

Senden told me afterward he thinks the winner this weekend will be the best putter. With the greens as soft and sticky as they are, someone like Senden (who leads the TOUR in Greens in Regulation) will get the most opportunities for birdies. Who will convert the most chances? That's the question Senden would like to be able to answer himself on Sunday.

I met Justin Thomas, the 16-year-old who became the third youngest cut-maker in PGA TOUR history with his opening 65 and 72 in the first two rounds. Who is he? He could have delivered pizzas to your door last night, or maybe mowed your lawn last weekend (do 16-year-olds still mow lawns?). He's a short kid who just happens to be miles ahead of most teenage prodigies. An opening 65 that beat the U.S. Open champ and a whole host of PGA TOUR winners? It's preposterous, but that's what golf does. I can't wait to see what he does this weekend.

Stat of the day
By his own admission, Chris Riley only used a driver four times during his Friday round of 63. Riley still averaged 271 yards off the tee -- he mainly relied on a 3-wood. "It's a pretty cool golf course because you can really take it however you want. If you want to challenge it and have wedges in your hand, you hit drivers. If you don't, then you hit whatever," Riley said.
