WEATHER UPDATE (8:07 a.m. ET): The players set out to a course under overcast skies Friday morning. It's warm and dry for now, though, with light winds and very little chance of rain until around 12 p.m. ET. The Greensboro, N.C., area is expecting thunderstorms in the afternoon, which could cause more long delays.

The first groups are ready to tee off for Day 2 of the Wyndham Championship. Here's how it sets up:

Groups We're Watching
Tee time Players
3:10 p.m. ET, Hole No. 1 Chez Reavie, Parker McLachlin, Johnson Wagner
Reavie is in first place after tying his career-best round Thursday. Can he keep up with the field as scores go lower?
3:30 p.m. ET, Hole No. 1 Brandt Snedeker, David Toms, Joe Ogilvie
Snedeker looked solid in his first round, shooting a 64 and tying for first place. He won here in 2007, he could do it again.
2:40 p.m. ET, Hole No. 10 Justin Rose, Rich Beem, Marc Leishman
Rose fired a first-round 65, just one shot off the lead, while Beem and Leishman are both 3 under.

EXPERT PREVIEW: PGA TOUR on-site correspondent Bob Stevens previews Friday's round:

It's going to take all day to sort out the Wyndham Championship. On one hand, some guys didn't even start their first rounds until after 6 p.m., played till dark and will be up at the crack of dawn to finish Round 1, then turn right around and play their second round. The players who started early Thursday, like Ryan Moore, will have wait until the other group finishes its 36 before they get started with their second round. Moore, who began Round 1 at 8:20 a.m., played 14-1/2 holes, then sat for four hours before finishing at about 5:30 p.m., thought he might have a 24-hour rest before having to play his second round. Advantage to that group? It'll be interesting to watch, and also dependent on a forecast that's not that promising for Friday.

John Daly's opening 66 might be a big surprise to the rest of us, but Daly's felt good about his game when he's felt good period. Daly had to withdraw from the Buick Open and the PGA Championship with back issues and also had Lasik eye surgery done in the last couple of weeks. Therapists have calmed the spasms in his back this week, and he says he can now read putts so much better with his "new" eyes. Imagine the noise that can be made by these North Carolina golf fans if JD keeps it going.

Tim Petrovic is a great tournament just waiting to happen. He had an awful streak of six consecutive missed cuts early in the year, then top-10s at the Verizon Heritage and the Quail Hollow Championship, missed four cuts in a row mid season, but has had two more top-10s at the John Deere Classic and US Bank Championship in Milwaukee. He told me he's taking better physical care of himself (working out more to increase his stamina) and has simplified his swing thoughts to "just watch the ball," channeling his inner Ty Webb (Chevy Chase in the immortal Caddyshack).

Stat of the day
Justin Rose, ranked 103rdin the FedExCup standings, is looking for his sixth top-25 finish this season on the PGA TOUR. Rose's best finish this season is a tie for 13th at the British Open. Prior to today, the last time Rose shot a 65 was the first round of the 2008 Travelers Championship.
