The top 10 players for the International and U.S. Teams that will compete in The Presidents Cup 2009 were determined earlier today with the conclusion of the PGA Championship in Chaska, Minn.

The two team captains, Greg Norman for the International Team and Fred Couples for the U.S. Team, will each make two captain's selections on Sept. 8 to round out their 12-man teams. The eighth Presidents Cup will be held Oct. 6-11 at Harding Park Golf Club in San Francisco, Calif.

The top-10 international players (excluding those eligible for the European Ryder Cup Team) from the Official World Golf Ranking after the conclusion of the PGA Championship automatically made the International Team. The top-10 U.S. players who earned the most official PGA TOUR money from the 2007 Wyndham Championship through the 2009 PGA Championship (with money earned in 2009 counting as double) automatically made the U.S. Team.

This week's PGA Championship was the last chance for the world's best to earn points and automatically qualify for their respective teams. Y.E Yang of Korea made the most of the opportunity. Yang outdueled Tiger Woods in the final round to defeat the world's No. 1 player by three strokes with a birdie on the final hole to become the first-ever Asian-born player to win a major championship.

Yang, who won earlier this year on TOUR at The Honda Classic, held a one-stroke lead on the final tee box. On his second shot, he hit a hybrid from 206 yards to 8 feet to birdie the last. Yang's victory gave him the points that he needed in the International Team rankings to break into the top 10 and move to No. 9. His gain became a los for South Africa's Rory Sabbatini as Yang pushed Sabbatini out of the final spot on the International Team.

On the United States Team, Lucas Glover nearly played his way onto the squad with a strong performance at the PGA Championship. Glover finished 5th, but needed a two-way tie for third or better to crack the top 10. The U.S. Open winner finished at No. 11 in the standings.
