PGATOUR.COM will have expert picks and sleepers for each Nationwide Tour event this year. Our experts -- Nationwide Tour producer Ceri Mobley and marketing assistant Jordan Crampton, who formerly worked for the Nationwide Tour -- will each choose two players they consider favorites that week and a sleeper pick (a player who is not inside "THE 25"). Here are their selections for this week's Stonebrae Classic. |
|
| Crampton's picks | Mobley's picks |
| Bryan DeCorso. I'm rolling the dice with my favorite Canadian Nationwide Tour Player again. DeCorso should have some momentum after a final-round 68 last week, which helped him hold his spot inside "THE 25." If DeCorso can build off his last two weeks, he should find himself in position to make a move this week. |
Vance Veazey. After two missed cuts Down Under, Veazey proved he's ready to play well again on this side of the world with a tie for third in Louisiana last week. He leads the Nationwide Tour money list and hopefully has a very happy season ahead of him. If I am lucky, he'll help me on my way to a happy season, too. |
| Michael Sim. Nationwide Tour Expert Dave Lagarde thinks Sim will win soon and find himself on the TOUR in '10. I like his chances this week; Sim has made three of four cuts this season and has finished inside the top 25 each time he's made the cut. Look for him to continue his good play this week at TPC San Francisco at Stonebrae. |
Martin Piller. Who says you can't put your faith in a rookie? Martin Piller has missed just one cut in his first season on Tour, and he missed out on his first win by thismuch at the Michael Hill New Zealand Open. He continued his strong play back in the US of A. How will he do in San Francisco? Something tells me very well. |
|
| Crampton's sleeper | Mobley's sleeper |
| Nick Flanagan. Although Flanagan is off to a relatively slow start in '09, only making two cuts, he started to show good form in New Zealand where he made both cuts, and in his last 10 rounds, he has only been over par twice. Flanagan proved he has a lot of talent in 2007 when he won three times on the Nationwide Tour; it's only a matter of time before he jumps back into the winners' circle. |
Dustin Risdon. Another rookie who is off to a surprisingly strong start in his first year on Tour is Dustin Risdon. He, too, has only missed one cut (at the Michael Hill New Zealand Open), but he hasn't finished worse than a tie for 44th on weeks that he has made the weekend. He tied for 10th at the season opener in Panama, and I think he can recapture that mature play on the West coast this week. |
|
LAST WEEK: Mobley and Crampton both had a tough week in the Nationwide Tour's return to the U.S.A with just one made cut between the two of them. They'll both be looking to improve this week in San Francisco.
