This is the Tour's second visit to Moonah Links, which is located about 90 minutes south of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula. The par-72, 7,469-yard layout has previously served as host of the 2003 and 2005 Australian Opens, won by Peter Lonard and Robert Allenby, respectively. The course was designed by native Australian and five-time British Open champion Peter Thomson. It opened for play in 2001.
Last year, Ewan Porter cruised to a wind-blown, seven-stroke victory, his first on Tour. Porter held the first- and third-round leads and shared the top spot at the halfway point. Sunday's final round featured sustained winds at 20-25 mph, gusts up to 45 mph and much of the field struggling to make pars. Eventually Porter posted a bogey-free 66. Only 11 of 72 players broke par during the final round, and Porter's 66 was three strokes better than the next-best score.
With all that said, let's see who Lagarde thinks can succeed in the 2009 Moonah Classic.
