Nationwide Tour President Bill Calfee released a statement on Friday about next week's Nationwide Tour Players Cup:

"We all recognize the economy has had a negative effect on golf sponsorships, and nowhere has it had more impact than the Nationwide Tour Players Cup with its coal industry-related sponsor base.

I am pleased to confirm that this event will be played as scheduled, however, we have been forced to make the difficult decision of reducing the purse to $600,000.

Despite the reduced purse, the tournament will produce record charitable contribution this year as a result of the "Tickets FORE Charity" program, with at least $125,000 going to West Virginia organizations. The tournament will also deliver significant economic impact to the region as well as tremendous media exposure for West Virginia.

Nationwide Tour players sincerely appreciate the wonderful hospitality they receive in West Virginia and are looking forward to returning to the Pete Dye Golf Club to once again display their tremendous talent for all the fans attending the event or viewing it on the GOLF CHANNEL."
