The Fort Smith Classic is proud to announce a new facet of the tournament's busy tournament week: Pink on the Links. The tournament has dedicated Friday, June 19, to raising awareness about breast cancer and to support the Ozark Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure as they work to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Pink on the Links will provide a day of education and activities on the course that will appeal to a wide range of women, even non-golfers.

Schedule of the day's events
Time Event
7 a.m. Ceremonial tee off
10 a.m. Pink Zone (featuring health, beauty, sports, and fun)
11 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch available for purchase
12 p.m. Fashion show
2 p.m. Door prize drawing (need not be present to win)
8 p.m. Par-Tee Pink -- entertainment by The Bouffants

Those attending should park at TAC AIR (on the corner of Phoenix Avenue and Airport Road across the street from Home Depot) and ride free shuttles courtesy of the River Valley Chevy Dealers Association to and from Hardscrabble Country Club. Passengers will have the opportunity to win prizes on their ride.

Pink is the theme and color of the day. Attendees will walk the pink carpet upon arrival to Hardscrabble. Corporate sponsors are encouraged to decorate their skyboxes for the cause as a committee of players' wives will present the best dressed box with the "Pink Flamingo" award. The Nationwide Tour professionals are also encouraged to participate by wearing pink during competitive play. Players are eligible to win prizes as the "Prettiest Pro in Pink."

Breast cancer survivors will be honored throughout the event. Survivors are filling on-course volunteer positions and walking inside the ropes with the pros during competitive play. The ceremonial tee-off will allow Pink on the Links volunteers to come together as a reminder of the purpose of the day and to encourage each other in their work to fight breast cancer.

As 2009 marks the 50th birthday of Barbie, the Pink Zone and Fashion Show will be "Barbie-inspired." The Mattel Corporation will provide giveaways for guests, and real-life Barbies will be on hand for photo opportunities with girls of all ages. Women are encouraged to bring their daughters or granddaughters to experience this event with them.

The Pink Zone will be set up in Hardscrabble's indoor tennis facility (19th Hole) and will feature four areas: Health Zone (breast health information from local healthcare providers), Beauty Zone (professionals providing manicures, massages, and makeovers), Sports Zone sponsored by Academy Sports (showcasing a selection of women's sports gear, several local women's sports teams/ opportunities, a virtual driving range and a Wii fit) and Fun Zone (surprises and door prizes).

The Fashion Show, co-hosted by KNWA anchor Neilie Jones and St. Edward Mercy CEO Jeff Johnston will feature clothing and accessories from several local boutiques modeled by local breast cancer survivors.

Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. until 1 pm and includes a chicken breast sandwich, a side and strawberry shortcake.

The day will conclude with Par-Tee Pink in the 19th hole. The Bouffants (www.TheBouffants.com), known for their big hair, big voices, and even bigger attitudes, will help participants celebrate a great day of golf, education and fun for the cause.

Tickets packages, which include admission to the tournament and all Pink on the Links activities, lunch, t-shirt plus Par-Tee Pink are available now through the tournament office for $35. Ticket proceeds benefit the Ozark Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
