Golf is a great way to strengthen relationships with your clients. But if you don't follow proper etiquette, a round of golf can do more harm than good. Follow these simple rules, and your client will be happy to mix business and pleasure again in the future.

Make the round convenient
If you were taking a client out to dinner, you would not make them drive two hours to the restaurant. The most important thing you can do to keep your client happy is to make the day as easy and interesting as possible. Inquire if there are any courses near his home where he would like to play. Work with the course to make sure everything is perfect on that day from a convenient tee time to refreshments.

Take the wheel
Offer to drive the cart for your client. Not only will it make the round more enjoyable for your client, it will allow you plenty of time to talk shop as you drive to the ball.

Keep the round moving
Show respect for your client's time. Do not hover over a putt for 15 minutes. He will not be impressed by your perfectionism or competitive fire. He will be more impressed if you finish your round in a timely manner.

Do not lose on purpose
Playing your best shows your client that you respect him as a worthy opponent and it requires your best game to win. If you are playing well, be modest and give credit to the people who were instrumental in helping you learn the game.

Let the client talk business first
Playing golf is like having a five-hour business meeting. Eventually the conversation will turn to business. There is no need to break out the PowerPoint presentation on the second tee.

Do not offer lessons unless asked
Sure, you might see a flaw in your client's game. You may even be able to correct it. But do not offer to fix it unless you are 100% convinced that the client wants help. Your discretion will be valued in business as well.

Make your own observations
Use this as an opportunity to learn about your client. Does he prepare well for the game? Is he levelheaded, even when he makes an embarrassing shot? Does he treat the golf course staff well? These things will all be great signs of a strong working relationship.

Bad etiquette isn't the only thing that can ruin your golf game. If knee pain is preventing you from performing at your best, you might be suffering from osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. Various treatments for OA do exist, such as ORTHOVISC®, which provides up to six months of knee pain relief. Made from ultra-pure natural hyaluronan, which is found in healthy joints, ORTHOVISC® is injected into the knee joint where it acts to replace your natural joint fluid, to help cushion, protect, and lubricate your knee.

ORTHOVISC® is a proud sponsor of PGATOUR.com. Talk to your doctor to see if ORTHOVISC® is right for you. Or visit our Web site at www.orthovisc.com for more information on how to maintain your knee health to help you keep playing the game you love.

Follow us on Twitter for up-to-date information on maintaining joint health and the prevention/treatment of knee pain due to sports-related injuries or the early symptoms of osteoarthritis.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

ORTHOVISC® is for patients who do not get adequate pain relief from simple pain relievers like acetaminophen or from exercise and physical therapy. ORTHOVISC® is not for use in people with known allergy to hyaluronate preparations, to gram bacterial proteins, with infections or skin diseases in the area of the injection site or joint. Common side effects include joint pain, back pain, headaches and pain or redness at the injection site.
