Ishikawa well behind pack in Asia-Pacific Open

KYOTO, Japan (AP) -- Daisuke Maruyama shot a 5-under 66 on Friday to take the lead at the Asia-Pacific Open, where he's trying to win for the first time in four years.

The 38-year-old Maruyama made six birdies and one bogey in the second round at the Joyo Country Club to reach 7-under 135, and take a one-shot lead over Kim Hyung-sun (68).

"I've been lazy and have not worked hard enough in the past," said Maruyama, whose last win came at the 2005 Fuji Sankei Classic in Japan. "I feel fitter now, especially on this course, which is hilly. I feel confident of winning."

Prayad Marksaeng (67) was another stroke back at 5 under, along with Japanese players Taichi Teshima (66) and Toru Suzuki (64). Marksaeng recovered from a shaky start to make five birdies on the back nine and move into contention.

"On the front nine, I didn't play so good," the Thai said. "My shots were either short or long on most holes. But on the back nine, I drove the ball better and holed a lot of long putts."

Teenager Ryo Ishikawa, currently Japan's top player after three straight victories, was tied for 51st after a 1-over 72.
