Palmer in the late 1970s
Still on the PGA TOUR in the late 1970s, Palmer continued to thrill his fans with spectacular shots. At the 1980 Bob Hope Desert Classic, he notched his 10th career ace on the sixth hole at Indian Wells.
His 50th birthday came on Sept. 10, 1979, and Palmer soon became a fixture on the brand-new Champions Tour. The circuit was the perfect fit for the King, who attracted fans to the events. He was even still competitive - in 1981, Palmer became the first person to win both the U.S. Open and U.S. Senior Open.
