Arnold Palmer has spent over 50 years in the public eye, posed for thousands of pictures and authored some of the most memorable moments in golf history.
On Sept. 10, 2009, the King turns 80 and, in honor of his big celebration, we've picked 18 of our favorite Palmer pictures and put together a photo timeline of his career.

| Palmer captained the U.S. Presidents Cup Team in 1996. He also captained at the Ryder Cup in 1963 and 1975 and played for the Americans at the event in 1961, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1971 and 1973. He compiled a sterling 22-8-2 Ryder Cup record as a player, and the Americans won all three team events he captained. |
| The 1996 Presidents Cup took place at the Robert Trent Jones GC in Prince William County, Va., so former President George H.W. Bush and President Bill Clinton took part in the festivities. Captain Palmer's team featured Davis Love III, Fred Couples, Mark O'Meara, David Duval and a young Phil Mickelson, who has followed in Palmer's footsteps by charming fans with his charismatic personality. |
