Palmer in the early 1990s
As his 60th birthday came and went, Palmer revved up his playing schedule to the delight of Champions Tour fans. From 1987-93, he played in at least 17 Tour events per year. At 59 years old, Palmer captured his final Champions Tour victory at the 1988 Crestar Classic.
Away from the links, Palmer made a special trip to D.C. to address Congress on the 100th anniversary of his pal Dwight D. Eisenhower's birth. He would later say of the trip that he "spoke from the heart about a man I loved like a second father, and Congress gave me -- or should I say President Eisenhower -- a standing ovation."
