Ormsby holds share of Johnnie Walker lead

GLENEAGLES, Scotland (AP) -- Despite dropping three shots on the last two holes Thursday, Wade Ormsby's 4-under 68 was good enough for a share of the early lead at the Johnnie Walker Championship.

The Australian's first-round score was matched by defending champion Gregory Havret of France and Steven O'Hara of Scotland.

Ormsby was 7 under after 16 holes despite a bogey at the first.

"You never want to finish a round like that," Ormsby said of his double bogey at the short 17th and a bogey at the last.

"I was a bit unlucky on 17 with a bad lie in the bunker. There was no sand and a bad lie at the back," he said. "And 18 was just poor golf."

European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie shot a first-round 76 for the second successive week.

"I played badly. I've been playing badly all year. Same again," said Montgomerie, who lost a ball and double bogeyed the 13th after starting his round at the 10th.

Montgomery also had a double bogey on the seventh.

Christian Cevaer and Gareth Maybin both shot 69, one shot back of the leading trio.

The course was reduced to 7,151 yards after the 12th hole was cut from 445 yards to 280 because the landing area was flooded by heavy rain Wednesday.

The two Ryder Cup players in the field, Oliver Wilson and Soren Hansen, were playing later.
