
The label used to belong to Phil Mickelson, but he shed it at the Masters in 2004. Sergio Garcia seems to be stuck with it since then, although Colin Montgomerie probably has reason to think that he's been tagged with it for an interminably long time.
Best Player Without a Major.
It's a double-edged sword. On the positive side, it means you possess the kind of talent worthy of winning a major. On the negative side, it means you've failed to meet those expectations.
As we enter the year's final major, the PGA Championship, the list of players worthy of that label seems longer than usual. And with Lucas Glover (U.S. Open) and Stewart Cink (British Open) breaking through with the first major victories of their careers this year, it would be no surprise to see a third first-time major winner emerge at Hazeltine on Sunday.
OK, it would be a surprise since that would mean Tiger Woods didn't win, but you get our drift.
