Q-school: Player quotes from the final round

Dec. 7, 2009  |   |  PGATOUR.com

PGA TOUR media official Joe Chemycz collected quotes from some of the 25 players who earned cards Monday at the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament:

Troy Merritt (Medalist) | Scorecard
"Probably the most satisfying double-bogey I've ever made. The trophy is to get to play with the big boys next year."

Matt Jones (Finished third) | Scorecard
"I'll know what to expect (on the PGA TOUR) so I'm looking forward to the PGA TOUR in 2010. It was a battle mentally. But it was a good week. This is my first time playing well at q-school. I haven't even gotten my full Nationwide Tour status here in the past. So this is rewarding."

Brendon de Jonge (Finished tied for fifth) | Scorecard
"I'm glad it is done. Hopefully this will give me a good start on the year since I finished high up on the leaderboard. You just have to tell yourself it is what it is. It is a long week. You'll have bad breaks throughout the week. You just have to stay patient, which is easier said than done."

Billy Horschel (Finished seventh) | Scorecard
"It started out easy with a birdie on Nos. 3 and 4. But then it all started getting loose. Luckily I made some birdies coming in. It is awesome to make it through this. It will probably hit me when I make my reservation to Hawaii."

J.P. Hayes (Finished tied for eighth) | Scorecard
"It was good golf. I believe in good karma, but that was all a year ago. I've had a lot of good things happen to me since. This week was good, solid golf. I never know how I get through these things. It is a mentally difficult week. It is a physically difficult week. Golf is almost third, but I played very well."

David Lutterus (Finished tied for eighth) | Scorecard
"I just wanted to take the aggressive mentality into today's final round like Y.E. Yang did a couple of years ago. I'm extremely happy. Coming from Australia to the United States, everything is bigger. It is daunting at first, but I've been here four years now. I feel comfortable over here now and that is showing in my golf game. The eGolf Tour (in 2009) was great for me and helped me keep my game in check."

Jay Williamson (Finished 11th) | Scorecard
"The 75 yesterday got my attention. It got me back on the cut line, which I seem to enjoy."

Chris Wilson (Finished tied for tied for 12th) | Scorecard
"Today is a dream come true. To represent Columbus, Ohio and all my friends back there ... I am at a loss for words right now. I played in the Memorial Tournament and then the rest of the year I played well. I think I drew from that experience. If I can play on that stage (Memorial), everything else pales in comparison. I felt more pressure at the Memorial than I did here today."

Omar Uresti (Finished tied for 15th) | Scorecard
"I got a little tight at the beginning of the round, then I loosened up during the round and then I tightened up at the end. I'm looking at hopefully at least three starts on the west coast early next year ... and then hopefully I'll move up in the shuffle to get in a few more tournaments."

Ogilvie

Joe Ogilvie (Finished tied for 15th) | Scorecard
"Being here, finishing No. 132 on the money list, is humbling. But having done this the last six days and being here for 10 days ... Shakespeare would have written one hell of a tragedy. It is one hell of a tournament. It is an amazing thing that we don't sell it a lot better because it is one hell of a deal."

Rickie Fowler (Finished tied for 15th) | Scorecard
"I don't think it was as bad for me as some of the other guys out here. Some of the guys had a lot more on the line than I did. The way I've been playing, I had a lot of confidence coming into the week, but it was still tough. It was a great experience. I had a chance to get into the top 125 but didn't play well at Disney, so Q-School was the path for me the whole way and I was lucky enough to play well. I kept the ball in front of me all week. I think I hit 15 greens today and that definitely helped keep the stress off. It will be nice to have status next year and hopefully play well."

Shane Bertsch (Finished tied for 15th) | Scorecard
"I worked all week trying to get comfortable, but I just couldn't get comfortable. It isn't a real comfortable week anyway. I told my wife last night that if I had 22 holes and I could make eight birdies and no bogeys, I could get it done. I had a lot of things happen before the broken foot. Everything was going against me. It was tough for awhile. I knew I'd be out there again sometime, but never knew when. I want to thank my physiotherapist and the team back in Denver for helping me out."

Michael Connell (Finished tied for 19th) | Scorecard
"This feels pretty good. I'm looking forward to 2010. It has been aspiration of mine for a while. I've been working hard and it is great to make it through."

Cameron Tringale (Finished tied for 19th) | Scorecard
"I was talking to my brother, John, before the tournament. We decided everything we have done in golf up to this point was to get me ready for q-school. Grinding through all of those college matches has been great for me. The Walker Cup helped a lot too. It made me realize how many great players there are and it gave me confidence that I could compete because I played well there."

Brian Stuard (Finished tied for 19th) | Scorecard
"I'm not sure exactly what was going through my mind. I had to regroup and start hitting good golf shots. I hit a good shot on No. 17 and that gave me momentum on the last hole. I pretty much knew where I stood. I knew I needed a few birdies coming in and I was lucky enough to see some of them go in."

Chris Riley (Finished tied for 19th) | Scorecard
"I was leaking oil. You are usually nervous for a couple of holes in a tournament, but in Q-School it never goes away. I haven't finished well on Tour this year and I didn't play well today, but fortunately it was enough. I didn't want to bring attention to it, but I flew in on a redeye and drove straight to the course on Wednesday just in time for my tee time. I knew if I could get through that first round I'd be all right."

Spencer Levin (Finished tied for 23rd) | Scorecard
"I missed some putts today that I was supposed to make. You have weird thoughts going through your head. It is so tough. To be honest with you, I thought I was going to miss, so I'm in a lot better mood now. I am just going to go home, take some time off and enjoy this a little bit. Then I'll start getting ready for next year."

Brent Delahoussaye (Finished tied for 23rd) | Scorecard
"It was a great week. I have been trying this for so long and I finally pulled it off. I don't know what to say. I think we had our honeymoon set up, but we were going to take a rain check on that. I'm sure she'll be okay with having to go to Hawaii instead. It was a long week .. and a long year. It is great to see all of the hard work pay off. My attitude went south a little bit yesterday, but I hung in there today. I'm exhausted now. I thought I could do it all along, but until you actually do it, you don't know how you're going to do in this situation."
