Second stage: Round 4 roundupsNov. 21, 2009 | | PGATOUR.com Be sure to check in throughout Saturday evening as updates come in from all six sites. Here are brief recaps from Saturday's final round of the second stage of the 2009 PGA TOUR National Qualifying Tournament. PANAMA CITY, Fla. -- Garrett Osborn managed another solid round, this time a 6-under 65, to take the top spot at the Hombre Golf Club. Osborn's four-round score of 20 under was four strokes better than runner-up Casey Wittenberg, who finished 16 under for the week after a 4-under 67 on Saturday. Josh Broadaway took third-place honors at the site, finishing the week at 15 under. Shaun Micheel, the 2003 PGA Champion, shot a 2-over 73 and finished tied for ninth with Rafael Gomez and Dicky Pride. Justin Peters, who won GOLF CHANNEL's first "Big Break," finished in fourth at 10 under. Skip Kendall finished in a tie for 12th at 4 under. PGA TOUR winners Guy Boros (T21) and Peter Lonard (WD) did not advance, as only the top 20 moved on to the next stage. BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- Jay Williamson claimed the top spot at Southern Hills Plantation Club with a four-round total of 18-under 270, two strokes better than Keven Fortin-Simard who took the second-place spot all by himself. Williamson's 3-under 69 in Round 4 didn't equal his three 67s in the first three rounds, but was still enough to clinch the low four-round score in Brooksville. The Brooksville site will send 21 players to the final stage, and other notables in those advancing include former University of Florida All-American Billy Horschel (T14, 9 under), Arjun Atwal (T9, 10 under) and Marco Dawson (T14, 9 under), who has played 375 career PGA TOUR events. A laundry list of notable players did not advance this week out of the Brooksville regional. Those players include Joe Durant (T22), Dean Wilson (T47), Brad Adamonis (T35), Frank Lickliter II (T56), Erik Compton (T62), Ty Tryon (T51), Robert Gamez (T65) and David Gossett (72). PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Kevin Kisner shot a second consecutive 66 on Saturday and ran away from the field with a 25-under 263 in four rounds at Callaway Gardens. Scott Brown was the closest competitor, finishing 18 under for the week and placing in second. PGA TOUR veterans Ken Duke and Tom Scherrer will both advance to the final stage after finishing in third and tied for 10th, respectively. The low rounds of the day belonged to Chris Kirk and Chris Nallen, who each shot an 8-under 64 and tied for seventh place. Kirk began the day well outside the cutoff line, but his bogey-free round that included six birdies and an eagle was enough. In all, 23 players will advance after four players tied for 20th place. Those final four in are Bobby MacWhinnie, Kyle Thompson, Robert Damron and Chris Mundorf. Two-time PGA TOUR winner Len Mattiace finished in a tie for 24th, one stroke outside of the cutoff line. KINGWOOD, Texas -- Emmett Turner had a modest 71 in his final round at Deerwood Golf Club, but it was still enough to earn top honors at the Kingwood site, beating the field by two strokes. After posting three rounds in the 60s, Turner's 1 under Saturday round included three birdies and two bogeys. He extended his bogey-free streak to 54 holes before recording a five on the par-4 fifth hole. In a round with very few scores under 70, the low score of the day belonged to David Mathis and his 5-under 67. Mathis' six-birdie, one-bogey round allowed him to leap into fourth place on the leaderboard and advance to the final stage. 22 players will move on to the final stage from Kingwood, as six players tied for 17th place. Not included in those advancing is Jamie Lovemark, who lost in a playoff at the Frys.com Open during the PGA TOUR's Fall Series but finished three strokes behind the cut line in Texas. BEAUMONT, Calif. -- Jeff Brehaut and Brendan Steele turned in matching 68s on Saturday to tie for the top spot at Oak Valley Golf Club. Both men finished the week with an 18-under 270, two strokes ahead of third-place finisher Chris Kamin. Dan Buchner was on the outside looking in after three rounds, but a 7-under 65 in Round 4 boosted the Californian to a tie for ninth place and a spot in the final stage. Buchner was having trouble getting in gear in the first three rounds, but eight bogeys in the final 18 holes did the trick. Five players tied for 19th place in Beaumont, so 23 players will move on to the final stage. Notables in that group of 23 include Phil Tataurangi (T4), Jason Gore (T9) and Jonathan Kaye (T9). McKINNEY, Texas -- Martin Flores finished the week with the lowest total score, shooting a 3-under 68 in the final round to clinch the top spot at TPC Craig Ranch. His 15-under overall score was three shots better than Troy Kelly, who clinched second place by himself with a 2-under 69 on Saturday. 23 players will advance to the final stage after five players tied for 19th place. Colt Knost was included in that group, finishing in a tie for seventh place after shooting a Saturday-low 65. Knost has three consecutive rounds in the 70s, but his 6-under final round clinched his spot in the advancing group. Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey, a GOLF CHANNEL "Big Break" winner, finished in a tie for fourth place at 10 under. Paul Stankowski (6), Brenden Pappas (T12) and Hunter Haas (T19) also advanced to the final stage. |
