BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- Jay Williamson shot his second-straight 67, while Brad Adamonis shot his second consecutive 69, to sit among those currently inside the top 21 on the leaderboard halfway through the second round at Southern Hills Plantation Club. ![]() Williamson Williamson, who is two shots off the lead of Sunny Kim, finished in a tie for 18th at last year's PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament and played in 22 PGA TOUR events this season, making the cut in 14 of them with his best finish a tie for 18th at the Puerto Rico Open presented by Banco Popular. Adamonis, meanwhile, is in a tie for 14th, six shots back. Adamonis, who lost his father to cancer last month, missed the cut in nine of his last 10 TOUR events, though he did have a top-10 at the 50th Bob Hope Classic hosted by Arnold Palmer earlier this season. Other notable players currently tied for 21st or better -- the cut-off for advancing to the final stage of q-school -- include Matt Borchert, who is tied for second through two rounds, and Arjun Atwal, who is tied for 21st at 5 under. A number of other players are currently on the outside looking in, including Marco Dawson (T29), Erik Compton (T29), Joe Durant (T33), Dean Wilson (T42), Leif Olson (T48), Frank Lickliter II (T48) Ty Tryon (T61), Robert Gamez (T69) and David Gossett (81st). KINGWOOD, Texas -- Emmett Turner, who ranked 49th on the eGolf Tour money list in 2009, posted a 5-under 67 to take a two-shot lead at 9 under after the second round at Deerwood Golf Club. Korea's Sung-hoon Kang and Australia's Jamie Arnold are tied for second at 7 under, Kang, a promising young player on the Asian Tour, lost in a playoff earlier this year at the Ballantine's Championship. J.P. Hayes and Neal Lancaster, former winners on TOUR, are at 6 under along with former Texas Tech golfer Shaun Melville. Players with notable TOUR experience who are within striking distance of the lead include Omar Uresti, Brandt Jobe and Glen Day. Jamie Lovemark, who lost in a playoff at the Frys.com Open during the Fall Series, is well back in the pack at 1 over. Nineteen qualifying positions and ties advance to the final stage. PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Kevin Kisner followed up his opening-round 64 with a 5-under 67 to take a one-shot lead after 36 holes at Callaway Gardens-Mountain View course. Kisner had six Nationwide Tour starts in 2009, making two cuts. PGA TOUR veteran Ken Duke is solo fourth after rounds of 64-70. Two-time PGA TOUR winner Len Mattiace is in danger of missing the finals -- he is tied for 57th (71-73). PANAMA CITY, Fla. -- Andrew McLardy fired a 6-under 65 to move into a share of the lead with Garrett Osborn and Casey Wittenberg after two rounds at the Hombre Golf Club. They lead by one shot at 9 under. McLardy carded seven birdies on his round, including five on the back nine. Osborn had the first-round lead with a 64 on Wednesday. Wittenberg, a former Oklahoma State star, was tied for second after the first round of the Children's Miracle Network Classic last week and wound up tied for 52nd. Other notables in good shape include 2003 PGA Champion Shaun Micheel, who is tied for 12th, and former PGA TOUR members Guy Boros, Dicky Pride and Skip Kendall, all tied for 14th. Peter Lonard, the 2005 MCI Heritage winner, is tied for 32nd at 1 over, currently three shots out of a qualifying spot. McKINNEY, Texas -- Luke List followed up his opening-round 64 with a 2-under 69 to take a one-stroke lead over Kyle Reifers at TPC Craig Ranch. List is making his third q-school appearance. Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey carded his second consecutive 68 and is in position to nab one of the 21 spots (and ties) that will advance to the final stage. Gainey is at 6 under, with only a handful of players ahead of him on the leaderboard. Scott Gutschewski, who had a couple of top-20 finishes during the Fall Series, shot himself back into the tournament with a 5-under 66 and is 5 under. Local favorite Colt Knost shot even-par 71 and is 1 under. BEAUMONT, Calif. -- Nationwide Tour regular Brendan Steele followed up his first-round 63 with a 71 on Thursday to maintain the lead after 36 holes at at Oak Valley Golf Club. New Zealand's Phil Tataurangi, winner of the 2002 Invensys Classic at Las Vegas, is second after rounds of 67-68. Bob May, the 2000 PGA Championship runner-up, is in line for a spot in the final stage after opening with rounds of 70-67. Jason Gore is tied for seventh after rounds of 68-70. Two-time PGA TOUR winner Jonathan Kaye is tied for 42nd. Only the top 20 players are tied advance to the finals. |
