BACKGROUND

Almost 150 years ago, Henry Fancourt White built "Blanco House" in George, South Africa. Over the years the property expanded and changed hands many times until 1994, when Dr. Hasso Plattner and his wife, Sabine, bought the property and turned it into the international business and leisure destination that it is today.

Fancourt is situated in the heart of South Africa's beautiful Garden Route, across 550 hectares of lush countryside with the majestic Outeniqua Mountains as its backdrop. Fancourt is only seven kilometers from the George Airport and the historic town of George and is within easy reach of many tourist destinations.

GOLFER'S PARADISE

Since opening in the early '90s with just 27 Gary Player-designed holes, Fancourt's Outeniqua and Montagu golf courses have matured and developed into two of the finest 18-hole parkland layouts in the country.

The Links at Fancourt was added in 2000, about which designer Player says: "Links golf is how the game originated, and at The Links we take golfers back to the roots of golf." In 2003, The Links hosted the prestigious Presidents Cup, and in 2005 it was home to the Women's World Cup of Golf.

Fancourt's fourth golf course, also a Player design, was recently added. Bramble Hill is Fancourt's only public golf course.

Also on-site, Fancourt has one of the finest golf academies in the world, which houses the only TaylorMade Performance Lab in Africa, and is home to the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. There are three pro shops at Fancourt, each offering a wide variety of golf hardware, accessories and clothing.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES

For the non-golfer, the Fancourt Spa awaits. In addition to its signature treatments, the spa has a sauna, steam room, tepidarium, heated indoor Roman Bath, jacuzzi and gymnasium with personal trainers. There is also a hair salon, an exclusive ladies fashion boutique and a jewelry store to visit.

Outdoor pursuits include fishing, cycling, tennis courts, outdoor and indoor swimming pools and running/walking trails.

Mountain biking, picnics, horse riding and walks can be arranged on request, and glorious swimming beaches are within close driving distance from Fancourt.

ACCOMMODATION

Guests have a choice of historic Manor House rooms, contemporary executive rooms or upmarket garden suites and studios. All 150 rooms are air-conditioned with satellite television, direct dial telephone, mini-bar facilities, in-room safety boxes, wireless internet and tea/coffee making facilities. There is also a special needs room available, as well as a stylish and spacious presidential suite.

FANCOURT CONFERENCE CENTRE

The Banquet Hall is an impressive 425-square meter multi-functional room. With its sliding acoustic panels and large windows with views of the Outeniqua Mountains, the Banquet Hall is an idyllic venue for large presentations and receptions. There is also a separate, discrete technical room for audio technicians.

Upstairs, the Fancourt Conference Centre has six meeting rooms (including three boardrooms), which can accommodate small groups and those up to 80 people. In addition, there is an upstairs balcony that can host up to 150 guests for cocktails and buffet lunches or act as a breakaway area.

SURROUNDING AREAS

• Knysna: Take a ferry trip across the stunning Knysna Lagoon to Featherbed Nature Reserve or enjoy fresh oysters at the Knysna Waterfront.

• Oudtshoorn: The incredible Cango Caves will leave you intrigued. Hug a cheetah at Cheetahland or take a race on the back of an ostrich at a show farm. A scenic drive across the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains will provide many photo opportunities.

• Mossel Bay: Be sure to visit Seal Island or the Diaz museum. And for the thrill seeker, shark cage diving or bungee jumping is just the thing.
