D.A. Points moved up last week after he made the cut at Liberty National.
Sep. 3, 2009
The PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup are under way, and the fight begins to make the field for the THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. The Playoffs field will be shaved down to 70 players for next week's BMW Championship.
As we go into this week's event -- the Deutsche Bank Championship-- here is a quick look at the players on the bubble just above and below the 70th spot.

Bob Estes |
Estes made the second week of the Playoffs in 2007 and missed the cut at TPC Boston with rounds of 70-77. He's missed only four cuts all year in 2009. Interesting stat: He's first in greens in regulation from under 100 yards (95 percent) but 192nd in greens in regulation from over 200 yards (33 percent). |

Greg Owen |
The Englishman made a huge leap last week at Liberty National, but the finish only gave him another week. He will need to do it again to make it to Cog Hill, but he's had a fine year after spending last season on the Nationwide Tour. |
| 67 |
Fred Couples |
Couples missed the cut last year at TPC Boston, but he's made five cuts in a row heading into this week. Couples played very well last week at Liberty National, and only a second-round 76 forced him into the bubble this week. As usual, his putter will be the deciding factor for him. |

D.A. Points |
This Nationwide Tour graduate has already had a successful season no matter what happens this week at TPC Boston. It's good for any Nationwide Tour graduate to keep his card, and Points has a shot to do much more than that. |

Charlie Wi |
Wi has been struggling since opening with three top-10 finishes before May. He hasn't scored a top-25 since the Colonial and has barely made an impact over the past month. |
| 70 |
Briny Baird |
Since finishing tied for eighth at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, Baird has only made one cut. He played extremely well at TPC Boston in 2008, but a final-round 75 sent him to a tie for 21st. |

Sergio Garcia |
Garcia opened with a 65 last week at Liberty National, but that score was attained on the lone day of prime scoring for the new course. Garcia's long-hitting game should be well suited for TPC Boston, but it will come down to putting. |
| 72 |
Bubba Watson |
This big hitter has not made a cut since late June, and his second-round 69 at the Wyndham Championship is the only time he's broken 70 since the Travelers Championship. |
| 73 |
J.J. Henry |
Henry, like Watson, is a big hitter who should like TPC Boston, and he's made four cuts in a row. Like many players in the field, putting is the deciding factor, but he carries momentum into this event. |
| 74 |
Bryce Molder |
This Georgia Tech graduate missed the cut in his first Playoffs event last week, but he's still had a fine year no matter what happens this weekend. |
| 75 |
Woody Austin |
Austin missed the cut last week in the Barclays, which caused him to slide down 19 spots. He tied for 40th last year at TPC Boston after a 75 in the final round. |
