The field has hit the fairways for the third round of the Transitions Championship. Check out how FedExCup scenarios are unfolding.
Quick Facts:
Only three players could pass Geoff Ogilvy with a victory this week - Kenny Perry, Zach Johnson, and Nick Watney
Watney would pass Ogilvy with a solo second place finish.
Only 23 players could move into the top 5 with a victory.
Player Notes:
Steve Stricker
FedExCup Rank: 8
FedExCup Points: 611
The highest ranked player in the FedExCup points standings without a victory, Stricker could move into third with a victory this week.
Even without a victory Stricker is averaging over 100 points per start.
Stricker ranks second on the PGA TOUR in scrambling and is eighth in scoring average.
Nick Watney
FedExCup Rank: 3
FedExCup Points: 970
The highest ranked FedExCup player in the field Watney would pass Geoff Ogilvy with a win or a solo second-place finish.
Not counting the 500 points Watney earned for his win at the Buick Invitational, he still is averaging 94 points per start.
For the second straight week Watney finds himself starting the third round in the last group, and it is probably not a coincidence that he ranks third on the PGA TOUR in second-round scoring average.
Charles Howell III
FedExCup Rank: 42
FedExCup Points: 233
Howell could move as high as sixth with a victory this week.
The only way Howell can move into the top-10 in the standings is with a victory.
After finishing the inaugural 2007 FedExCup competition in the top 30, Howell did not fair as well in 2008 finishing 95th in the standings.
Retief Goosen
FedExCup Rank: 37
FedExCup Points: 259
Goosen could move as high as fifth with a victory, but he cannot move into the top 10 unless he wins.
Finishing 89th in 2007 and 108th in 2008, Goosen has yet to make it past the second round of the playoffs.
Goosen has missed the cut in three of the four Playoff events in which he has played, and finished tied for 60th in the fourth.
