AT&T extends sponsorship of Champions Tour event

SAN ANTONIO -- AT&T Inc. announced Thursday it has extended its sponsorship of the AT&T Championship and will continue hosting the Champions Tour event in San Antonio through 2014.

The announcement furthers the company's commitment to the San Antonio community after earlier this year announcing it had secured the naming rights of two new Tournament Players Club (TPC) golf courses -- the AT&T Oaks Course (designed by Greg Norman, with player consultant Sergio Garcia) and the AT&T Canyons Course (designed by Pete Dye with player consultant Bruce Lietzke).

"The Alamo City offers a unique, world-class golf experience and it's been an exciting and rewarding venue to host such a distinguished tournament," said John Stankey, chief executive officer of AT&T Operations. "We're happy that local residents, golfers and fans will be able to enjoy the AT&T Championship in San Antonio for many years to come."

AT&T said it anticipates moving the AT&T Championship to the TPC courses when they are ready for tournament play. The AT&T Oaks and Canyons courses and the adjacent 1,002-room JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa are scheduled to open in early 2010. As with all TPCs, TPC San Antonio will be built with the necessary infrastructure to host a professional golf tournament.
