SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Three-time defending Raphael Division champions Tom Watson and Andy North continued their magic on Friday. Playing as a team in the Legends Division for the first time, the pair fired an opening-round 13-under-par 59 to open a three-stroke margin over five other teams in that division which concludes on Sunday.

• Watson and North played another bogey-free round, increasing their string of bogey-free holes to 126. They won three consecutive Raphael Division titles (2005-07).

• The 13-under-par 59 recorded by Watson and North was the lowest team score ever posted since the event moved to the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf and Spa course in 2003. It was also one stroke shy of the all-time tournament record of 14-under-par 58 by Harold Henning and Al Geiberger at the 1991 event played at Barton Creek CC in Austin, Texas. Henning and Geiberger's 58 came in the final round, but they still fell two strokes short of Mike Hill and Lee Trevino that year.

• In the Raphael Division, the team of Bob Charles and Stewart Ginn holds a one-stroke margin over Tony Jacklin and Larry Laoretti in the 36-hole affair which concludes on Saturday. Charles and Ginn won the event in 2004 when Charles drained a 54-foot putt on the final hole to give them a one-stroke victory.

• Since teaming up in 2005, Watson and North are a combined 68 under par after seven rounds in the tournament.
