PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic --First-round leader Mark Wiebe's 5-under-par 67 marked the first time he has held sole possession of the opening round lead since his days on the PGA TOUR at the 2001 BMW Championship. In the first seven events of 2008, no first-round leaders have gone on to win.

Joey Sindelar made his Champions Tour debut on Friday and shot a 3-over-par 75.

Allen Doyle's former caddie, Greg Hickman, open qualified to gain entry into his first-ever Champions Tour event this week and shot 3-over-par 75 in the opening round.

Jerry Pate withdrew before the round due to shoulder problems.

Bob Gilder made his 101st consecutive start on the Champions Tour on Friday. The last time he missed an event came at the 2004 Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn. Dana Quigley holds the all-time record for consecutive events played with 264.

Fulton Allem landed the only eagle of the day on the par 5 No. 6. Monday qualifier Jeff Roth was the only player to make birdie on the par-4 No. 10.

Bernhard Langer, winner of last week's Ginn Championship at Hammock Beach, ended his streak of consecutive par or better rounds at nine when he shot a 2-over par 74 on Friday. It was his highest round on the Champions Tour since his opening round 5-over-par 76 at the 2007 AT&T Championship.

• There were no bogey-free rounds and only 13 players broke par.

• The most difficult hole was No. 18 with an average score of 4.545 (+.545). Nos. 10 and 13 ranked second and third, respectively, in difficulty. The easiest hole was No. 6 at 4.623 (-.377).
