• Furyk has held at least a share of the 36-hole lead 14 previous times, only two have which resulted in victory (1996 Sony Open in Hawaii, 2003 U.S. Open). ...

• Furyk did not make a single birdie on any of the par 5s in Round 1, and he nearly repeated that in Round 2. It wasn't until the last par 5 on the course, the 17th, that he broke the cycle. Up to that point had played nine par 5s over the course of two days without a birdie. ...

• The hottest start of the day belonged to Camilo Villegas and K.J. Choi, who each birdied their first three holes. Villegas, who began the day at 2 over, had the low round of the day with a 5-under-par 67. Partly to credit for that was an eagle-3 at the par-5 11th. ...

• Choi, en route to his 1-under 71, got credit for one of the three eagles posted in Round 2 with his 3 at the par-5 17th. Kenny Perry claimed the only other eagle of the day with his coming at the par-5 fifth. ...

• Of the 16 players in the 2008 Chevron World Challenge field, Fred Couples and Vijay Singh have the most history at Sherwood Country Club. Singh and Couples are each competing in their eighth Chevron World Challenge. Couples' best prior finish was fourth in 2000, with Singh's best performance being a second in 2001. Singh posted a second-round 72 on the heels of a first-round 71. ...

• At 49 years, two months and 16 days, Couples is the oldest player in the field. In Round 2, the the 2009 U.S. Presidents Cup team captain fired a 3-under 69, placing him three strokes behind Furyk's lead. ...

• 2005 Chevron World Challenge champion Luke Donald is making his first U.S. appearance since withdrawing from the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in June due to a wrist injury. Subsequent surgery was successful and Donald reports being "100 percent." He followed an opening round 1-over 73 with a 3-over 75 in Friday's second round. ...

• The scoring average for Round 2 was 71.567. The hardest-ranked hole was the 228-yard, par-3 eighth, surrendering zero birdies on Friday. The easiest-ranked hole was the 517-yard 11th. ...

• Four players are making their Chevron World Challenge debuts this year. They are: Kim (71-70--141), Villegas (74-67--141), Hunter Mahan (71-72--143) and Boo Weekley (70-73--143).
