INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- In addition to earning $25,000 with his eagle on No. 4 on Saturday, Phil Mickelson struck it rich with a prize package worth $25,000 from LG Home Entertainment. His package includes plasma and LCD HD TVs, a home theater audio system, an LCD computer monitor, a Blu-Ray player and a complete kitchen package including a French-door refrigerator, range, dishwasher and a front-load washer and dryer. In addition, he earned three LG mobile phones, including the new AT&T Smart Phone.
Mickelson wasn't the only competitor to earn some prizes from LG Home Entertainment. K.J. Choi hit his tee shot an inch closer to the hole than Mickelson on the par 3, 193-yard sixth hole and earned his own LG package which included a 52-inch LCD TV, a Blu-Ray Player and Home Theater system.
The players will also be bidding for the LG package for closest to the pin on hole 16 on Sunday. That package will include an LG French-Door refrigerator, a steam dishwasher, range and microwave oven.
Seeking a three-peat, Stephen Ames is hoping his previous Sunday magic returns on Sunday. While Ames has not fared well the past two years on Saturday, he still ended up with the title. In 2006, he did not win a skin on Saturday and won just one skin for $25,000 last year. However, Ames wound up with eight skins and $590,000 in 2006 and last year he came back to win eight more skins on Sunday to win the title with $675,000.
Seven players have gone on to win the LG SKINS GAME Championship after coming up empty-handed on Saturday as Ames and Mediate were on Saturday. Jack Nicklaus (1984), Fuzzy Zoeller (1985), Payne Stewart (1991), Fred Couples (1995), Greg Norman (2001), Fred Couples (2004) and Ames (2006) came up big on Sunday.
As is customary at the LG Skins Game, all four participants have agreed to donate 20 percent of their winnings ($200,000) out of the $1 million purse to their favorite charities. Ames is playing for The Stephen Ames Foundation, while Mickelson is playing for the Phil and Amy Mickelson Charitable Gift Fund. Mediate is playing for Small World Big Life, and Choi is playing for the K.J. Choi Foundation.
