Jul. 26, 2008

Weather: Partly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with skies becoming mostly sunny after 5:00 p.m.. A total rainfall of .52ML (.24") was dropped and afternoon high temperatures reached 81. Winds: SW 10-20 mph.

• Due to the amount of rain that continues to fall on Glen Abbey this week, the third-round of the RBC Canadian Open was played with preferred lies.

• Play was suspended at 12:44 p.m. due to a dangerous situation and resumed 2-hours, 40-minutes later at 3:24 p.m.

• Because of the number of players who made the cut after round-two (80), a second cut of low-70 and ties will take place via the PGA TOUR's secondary cut, which calls for the field to be reduced to the low 70 players and ties if the 36-hole cut results in more than 78 players making the cut.

• The last time a second-cut became necessary was at the Buick Open in June, where the field was reduced from 85 to 75 players for the final round.

• Playing in his first RBC Canadian Open, 26-year-old Chez Reavie is looking to take the first 54-hole lead on the PGA TOUR in his rookie year. Reavie held a one-shot lead headed into the final round of the 2007 Knoxville Open on the Nationwide Tour, which he parlayed into a three-stroke win. His previous-best position heading into a final-round on the PGA TOUR was a T12 at the John Deere Classic earlier this month, ultimately to finish T34. The best finish for Reavie so far this year is a T5 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.

• Chez Reavie has hit 12 of 14 fairways in each of his first two rounds, which should come as no surprise as he came to the RBC Canadian Open ranked seventh in driving accuracy on the PGA TOUR.

• Should Chez Reavie hold on to win the RBC Canadian Open, he would become the eighth first-time winner this year and 10th winner in his 20s to do so. The others are:

First-time winners Winners in their 20s
Brian Gay Andres Romero
Greg Kraft Johnson Wagner
Andres Romero Anthony Kim
Johnson Wagner D.J. Trahan
Anthony Kim J.B. Holmes
Ryuji Imada Sean OHair
Richard S. Johnson Trevor Immelman
-- Adam Scott
-- Sergio Garcia

• Coming off a T7 in his first British Open last week, 23 year-old Anthony Kim fired a 29 on his back-nine in round-two, needing only 10 putts. On his front-nine in round-three, Kim fired a four-under-par 31, combining for an 18-hole score of 60.

• With wins at the Wachovia Championship and AT&T National, Anthony Kim is looking to become just the third player on the PGA TOUR to post more than two wins this season. Here's a look at those with whom he's looking to join company:

Tiger Woods Kenny Perry
Buick Invitational the Memorial Tournament
WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship Buick Open
Arnold Palmer Invitational John Deere Classic
U.S. Open --

• Anthony Kim's third-round scoring average this year is 69.64, good for an 11th place ranking. Of 11 Saturday's in which he has competed, Kim has posted just four over-par scores. While he seems to know how to take advantage of "moving day," his Sunday average is a full stroke higher, at 70.64.

• Playing in his first RBC Canadian Open, Anthony Kim is ranked fifth in FedExCup standings with 14,272 points, despite having played in fewer events than half of the players ranked ahead of him. Should Kim go on to win the RBC Canadian Open, he would jump to third behind only Kenny Perry and Tiger Woods, who is out for the season.

• Should Anthony Kim hold any part of the third-round lead, it would be the second of his PGA TOUR Tour career. After 54-holes of the Wachovia Championship, Kim held a three-stroke lead. He would win his first PGA TOUR event the next day by five-strokes.

• In addition to his two wins and T7 at the British Open, Anthony Kim also posted a T2 at the Verizon Heritage and T3 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, his first event of the year.

• Anthony Kim and Chez Reavie are both competing in their first RBC Canadian Opens. Should either of the two go on to win, it would be the first time a "first-timer" won the RBC Canadian Open since Jerry Pate achieved the feat in 1976.

• Despite bogeys on three of his first four holes, 43 year-old Scott McCarron rallied with 10 birdies on his last 15 holes to post the best round of those who finished round-three Saturday with an eight-under-par 63.

• Scott McCarron, who has made just five cuts this year in 14 starts, will begin Sunday's final round near the top of the leaderboard likely in the company of a pack of young guns in their 20s, including Chez Reavie, Anthony Kim and Sean O'Hair. Perhaps having a Canadian Open mother will spur McCarron on to his first win since the 2001 BellSouth Classic.

• Despite struggling with his game since April, Steve Marino is positioning himself for a solid Sunday finish. With consistent four-under-par 67s in rounds one and two, Marino continued his upward climb in round three.

• In his sophomore year on the PGA TOUR, Steve Marino nearly claimed his first win earlier this year with runner-up honors to Brian Gay at the Mayakoba Golf Classic.
