BMW Championship: Partial third-round notebook

ST. LOUIS -- Play was suspended due to darkness at 7:18 p.m. Of the 68-player field, 23 were not able to finish their third round and will be back in position at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. The final round is expected to begin between 10 a.m. and noon in threesomes off of split tees.

• When play was suspended for the day, Jim Furyk held the clubhouse lead at 12-under 198 after fashioning a 4-under 66 in the third round. Camilo Villegas, who is 3 under on his round through 13 holes, is also at 12 under.

• Should Jim Furyk's lead hold up, it will mark the 15th time in his career he has held the 54-hole lead, including most recently the 2007 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial (tied for second). It would represent the second time he has held the 54-hole lead at the BMW Championship, carrying that lead on to victory in 2005. Camilo Villegas will return to the course on Sunday hoping to move into the 54-hole lead for the first time in his career.

• Jim Furyk is looking for his first victory of the season. The last time he failed to make his way into the winner's circle was in 2004. His last victory came at the 2007 Canadian Open.

• Dating back to 1970, the third-round leader/co-leader at the BMW Championship has won 19 time in 38 tournaments, including most recently Jim Furyk in 2005.

• In 2008, the third-round leader/co-leader has won 20 of 38 stroke-play events on the PGA TOUR, with the most recent being Carl Pettersson's win at the Wyndham Championship.

• Bart Bryant aced the 186-yard 13th hole with a 5-iron for the second hole-in-one of the day. It was Bryant's first career hole-in-one on the PGA TOUR. Sergio Garcia recorded a hole-in-one in the second round earlier on Saturday.
