• The Wyndham Championship returns to Sedgefield Country Club this week for the first time since 1976. The Donald Ross-designed course has seen no less than 11 players elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame win on it over the years, including Sam Snead, Ralph Guldahl, Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Lloyd Mangrum, Billy Casper, Julius Boros, Gene Littler, Gary Player, Chi Chi Rodriguez and Bob Charles.

• Sam Snead won five of his record eight titles in this event when it was contested at Sedgefield Country Club, including his 1965 victory when he became the oldest player in TOUR history (52 years, 10 months, 8 days) to win.

Brandt Snedeker will be looking to defend the title he won last year at Forest Oaks Country Club and if he's successful, he'll be the first player to win back-to-back titles in Greensboro since Sam Snead in 1955 and 1956. Snead, by the way, won those titles on two different courses so perhaps that's a good omen for Snedeker.

Ben Curtis loves those major championships. He has 11 career top-10 finishes, four of them in majors. He won the 2003 British Open, was tied for second last week at the PGA Championship and finished tied for seventh at the 2008 British Open and tied for eighth at the 2007 British Open.

• This is the final week for players to qualify for the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup which begin next week at The Barclays. Among those on the outside looking in are Davis Love III, Carlos Franco, Lee Janzen, Jeff Maggert, Rich Beem, Billy Andrade and Olin Browne. Love, by the way, is a two-time winner of this event (1992-2006).

• The only former major league baseball player to win a PGA TOUR title was Sam Byrd. The one-time New York Yankee won six titles with his first coming in Greensboro in 1942.
