This week's Sony Open in Hawaii is the first full-field event of the 2008 PGA TOUR season, as several players begin their journey towards the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.

BY THE NUMBERS
1The number of wins Paul Goydos had on the PGA TOUR before winning last year's Sony Open. His first win was 10 years, 9 months, and 29 days earlier at the 1996 Bay Hill Invitational. The winner's check of $936,000 from the 2007 event alone was more than he earned in any single season during 14 years on on TOUR. His previous best year was 2006, when earned a total of $890,392 in 24 events.
2As in the second hole at Waialae CC, played the hardest at the Sony Open in 2007. Players averaged 4.313 strokes on the 423-yard par 4. The 18th hole played the easiest, with a 4.353 scoring average for the 551-yard par 5.
4The number of players who will be making their first career PGA TOUR starts this week in Hawaii -- Travis Perkins and David Lutterus (q-school grads), and Michael Letzig and Marc Turnesa (Nationwide Tour grads).
5The number of players in the field this week who currently live in or are originally from Hawaii: PGA TOUR players Dean Wilson and Parker McLachlin, professional Tadd Fujikawa, and amateurs Alex Ching and Kevin Hayashi.
24Waialae Country Club's difficulty rank for all courses played on TOUR in 2007, with an average score of 0.271 over par. Out of the 55 venues that hosted an official PGA TOUR event, the hardest was Oakmont Country Club - the site of the 2007 U.S. Open Championship. The average score at Oakmont for the event was 5.705 over par.
63The lowest score recorded at the Sony Open in 2007, by the top three finishers in the event: Paul Goydos (1), Luke Donald (T2), and Charles Howell III (T2). Donald shot 63 in the first round of play, and Goydos and Howell matched this score in the second. The tournament record is 61, recorded in 2006 by David Toms in round three. Toms went on to win the tournament by five strokes.
91In feet, the longest putt made at the Sony Open. This putt was recorded in 2007 by Jarrod Lyle for a birdie 3 on the 423 yard par-4 2nd hole during the first round of play. The longest putt made on the PGA TOUR in 2007 was 100 feet, 1 inch. Ben Curtis sank this monster for a birdie 3 on the 14th hole during round one of THE PLAYERS Championship.
396In yards, the longest drive in the 2007 Sony Open, hit by John Daly on the 417-yard par-4 16th hole of Waialae CC. The longest drive on the PGA TOUR last year was 437 yards, hit by Brett Wetterich on the 420-yard par-4 12th at the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship at Kapalua. (yes, Wetterich's ball went over the green.)
7,044In yards, the length of the par-70 golf course at Waialae CC. The longest hole is the 551-yard par-5 18th. The longest par-4 on the course is the 480-yard opening hole; the longest par-3 is the 204-yard 4th. There are only two par-5s, and the shortest par-4 is the 351-yard 10th hole.
909,863The estimated population of Honolulu County (the location of Waialae CC), according to the U.S. Census. Honolulu is the most populated county in the State of Hawaii and encompasses the entire island of Oahu. The City of Honolulu is also the capital of the state.
954,000In dollars, the winner's share of the 2008 Sony Open's $5.3 million purse. The median payout (the player who makes the cut and finishes exactly in the middle of the field) will be approximately $28,620. The last-place finisher that makes the cut will earn approximately $10,600.
2,580,400In dollars, the most money made at the Sony Open by a single player throughout his career. This distinction is held by Ernie Els, who has played the event five times, averaging $516,080 per entry. Even though Els is not entered in this year's tournament, there is no player in the field that can threaten this record with a win. The closest is Jerry Kelly, with $1,390,843 in cumulative earnings at the Sony. Kelly would be $235,557 short of Els if he wins this week.
