Pick: David Duval
OK, hear me out first. I've heard that those close to Duval are saying he's dedicated himself to the game like never before. Despite his plunge in the rankings over the years, the fact remains that this guy was at one time a legit No. 1. If he's got his focus back on golf and can dust off the game he once had, Duval could most certainly find his way back to the winner's circle. If Duval does come back and win on TOUR in 2008, chances are you can thank Steve Stricker who soared out of oblivion to the No. 3 spot in the Official World Ranking. Also, Duval has great memories at the Hope. Remember that final-round 59 to win in 1999?

Pick: Dustin Johnson
I almost went with California boy Anthony Kim, a no-brainer choice for a sleeper pick every week since he's on the cusp of winning one soon. But then rookie Dustin Johnson's name caught my eye. In his first PGA TOUR start this season (only the second in the recent college graduate's career), Johnson tied for 10th at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Watch out for this one -- he will likely surprise the field one week very soon.

Pick: Fred Couples
It doesn't get more off-the-charts than going for our favorite Pooh Bear with a cranky back. He played well in those gold mines at the end of the year, he thrives on chit-chatting down the fairways and he's made for this event. When he's healthy. And, yes, he's won it.

Pick: Jesper Parnevik
His game seemed to come around late last season after a prolonged slump. A final-round 73 cost him a solid finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii. He has four top-10s in 11 starts here.

Pick: Fred Couples
You might think me an idiot but I am going with Fred Couples as my sleeper pick for the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Why Freddie? Well, he hasn't played an official event since last spring so he is well rested. He lives in the desert now so he can sleep in his own bed. Finally, what a great story it would be for the old fashion plate to make a new splash.

Pick: Anthony Kim
Kim went to high school in Palm Springs, got through Q-school in Palm Springs, and he should come into the week fired up. He's well rested and this long hitter should be able to annihilate the par 5s.

Pick: Fred Couples
Maybe it's a heart-over-head pick given the recent health of Couples, but hey, he knows his way around the place (21 cuts made in 22 starts), and back in the 1990s he absolutely owned this event (six straight Top-10s, win in 1998). Nothing would make me happier than to be watching Couples contending - heck, just playing - on Sunday.

Pick: John Rollins
He's rested and ready, and John Rollins knows he can play in the desert. The new daddy lost in a playoff last year at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Can he exact revenge this year and win for the third time on the PGA TOUR? Wait and see.

Pick: Anthony Kim
Knowing that only three men since 1978 have won their first PGA TOUR title at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic doesn't dissuade us from thinking that it could happen two years in a row. Everything goes in cycles, right? Kim has the tools to shoot good numbers, handle windy conditions, and he's a local product, which doesn't always work in a player's favor, but we think it could help this bold youngster.

Pick: Anthony Kim
Loaded with talent and ability. In his second full year, the 22-year-old aspires to become the No. 1 golfer in the world, nothing less. Were it not for Brandt Snedeker's victory at the Wyndham Championship last year, Kim may have been the Rookie of the Year. I believe he will win in 2008 and something tells me the kid raised in Southern California's Coachella Valley will deliver something special this week.
