The PGA TOUR announced today that Citi has become the first-ever Global Partner of The Presidents Cup in an agreement that extends through 2013, covering the next three biennial matches.

As part of a multi-year agreement, Citi will benefit from exposure across a broad array of PGA TOUR media and marketing assets including: Advertising and in-program enhancements on GOLF CHANNEL and NBC during television coverage of The Presidents Cup; strategic onsite branding; onsite hospitality for Citi's commercial and consumer clients; extensive exposure on PGATOUR.COM, PresidentsCup.com and other TOUR-related media.
"We are extremely pleased to announce this new category of partnership with such a prestigious global brand as Citi, which ties in perfectly with the global nature of The Presidents Cup," said Tom Wade, PGA TOUR Chief Marketing Officer. "We are confident that through its activation efforts and expansive consumer base, Citi will help to continue to grow the awareness, reach and prestige of The Presidents Cup globally."
"The Presidents Cup is one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, and we are thrilled to forge this multi-year relationship," said Lisa Caputo, Executive Vice President, Global Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Citi. "The strong team dynamic that sets these matches apart also aligns exceptionally well with the coaching and mentoring principles that are inherent in our own brand mission."
The Presidents Cup is a biennial event that pits players from the United States and non-European countries in a team, match-play competition. The 2009 event will take place Oct. 8-11 at Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco, where Fred Couples will lead the U.S. Team and Greg Norman will lead the Internationals. Both are major championship winners and both have played in The Presidents Cup during their stellar careers, a first in The Presidents Cup history.
In 2011, The Presidents Cup returns to Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia, Nov. 17-20. The U.S. Team has claimed victory in five of the seven events played since the competition began in 1994 (the 2003 event resulted in a memorable tie when Tiger Woods and Ernie Els dueled into a twilight, sudden-death playoff).
