Former Tour pro Rhyan dies at age 73

Dick Rhyan, a four-time runner-up on the Champions Tour, died Jan. 16 of a heart attack in Georgetown, TX. He was 73.

A PGA professional in his native Ohio, Rhyan was a sporadic PGA TOUR player, competing in 169 tournaments in a career that began in 1964. When Rhyan turned 50 in 1984, he eventually became a Champions Tour regular, playing in 277 tournaments and earning in excess of $1.5 million.

His best season came in 1988, when he finished runner-up at both the Showdown Classic and the Fairfield-Barnett Space Coast Classic and eventually finished 23rd on the money list. At the Showdown Classic in Park City, Utah, he became the first Champions Tour player to record an eagle and a double eagle in the same round.

His last Champions Tour appearance came in 1999 at the U.S. Senior Open.
