For the first time in his decade-long PGA TOUR career, Brian Gay will open the season on the beautiful island of Maui at the Mercedes-Benz Championship. That perk came courtesy of his first victory at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun. The win came in Gay's 293rd start and was nearly followed by another victory 21 tournaments later as he lost in a playoff at the Viking Classic. Those two paydays helped Gay to a $2.2 million season - better than his last two years combined. The Florida product was nothing if not consistent in 2008 - making the cut in 20 of the 30 events he finished. Gay had six top-10s, including two during the Fall Series, which should sent him to Hawaii with confidence. -- Helen Ross
