| For the first time since 1985, Mark Calcavecchia finished outside the top 125 on the money list. He should be healthy in 2009, though, after arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to repair the torn medial meniscus in October. The 48-year-old Calcavecchia has overcome knee surgeries before -- five times, to be exact. A 13-time winner on the PGA TOUR, he has three victories since turning 40, including the 2007 PODS Championship which gives him full playing privileges for 2009. With his knee problems, the 2008 season was an anomaly. When he's playing well, Calcavecchia, who won the 1989 Open Championship, is a solid, albeit at times, streaky putter -- and he can be a birdie machine. Good health should let the veteran contend again. -- Helen Ross |
