The 2009 season is a Presidents Cup year so it would be wise to watch Woody Austin closely as he bids to make the U.S. Team for the second time. Aqua Man, er, Austin, was the man of the match for the Americans in Canada.
Austin, who will always be remembered for the shot he hit out of the water at Royal Montreal, starts 2009 ranked 20th in the standings. Another solid season like 2008 when he posted six top-10s and earned more than $2 million -- for the second straight year -- should merit Captain Fred Couples' attention.
Austin's best finish of 2008 came at the Buick Open where he tied for second for the second straight year. He actually took the lead with a birdie at the par-5 16th but made bogey on the last two holes to finish one stroke behind Kenny Perry.
