MORE TOP 100 PLAYERS: BACK to Player No. 52 | FORWARD to Player No. 50 | Top 100 archive

Nicholas Thompson found out he belonged on the PGA TOUR last year. Now he wants to stick around, and building on that momentum in 2009 is key for this Georgia Tech graduate. Thompson is coming off a career year with more than $1.8 million in earnings -- tripling what he made in his first two years as a pro. He posted six top-10s and 11 top-25s finishes and made it through three events of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. Thompson threatened to break through at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans but made bogeys on his last two holes to finish three strokes behind Andres Romero. He came even closer at the Ginn sur Mer Classic, losing to Ryan Palmer by a shot. -- Helen Ross

Nicholas appropriately turns 26 on Christmas Day. He looks like a player, swings like a player and acts like a player. Not a bad stocking full of gifts.
